mn | I don't refer to it as real estate taxes. It's more accurately called paying rent to the government.
Worst part about it is that you can never truly own land. If you don't pay the rent to uncle Sam, they come take it. Even if it is owned free and clear.
Basically, the state governments have found a way to collect rent on the vast majority of land in the country while having zero liability or responsibilities on the land.
