N FLA | Probably won't get any sympathy from the backgrounding/preconditioning guys here on that deal. All I have to say is everyday you make a choice to either buy or sell your cattle. If you choose to buy them and precondition them for 60 days that operation needs to stand alone. I don't know if many preconditionjng yards flip calves every 60 days. That obviously won't pay on the conventional sense in a falling market.
Might need to let somebody that can forward contract truckloads take that risk. Or somebody that can replace the calves cheaper and go again.
Personally, i think you are barking up the wrong tree on price protection in the situation you described. | |
