Like many areas of the country, my county is seeing higher rates of heroin usage and burglaries/break-ins. My elderly mother lives alone, about a mile from me. My sister and I were chatting today...we wondered if steel doors with a steel frame would be a more secure option for her house? Are such doors manufactured as replacement units for wood frame homes? In most of the break-ins around here, the thieves go to the front door and just hit it with their shoulder, breaking the wood door jam and go on in. Mom has a Life Line system, so help would be rolling pretty quick, but it might not be quick enough. Our thinking is that if the potential thieves had to really work to get in, they would just leave. Plus, Mom would be on the Life Line system pronto.
Are steel frame doors available in a retrofit? Are there other options? thanks.
