I have heard of people driving a steel fence post in post butt and then pulling the whole works.
I have a 4 or 5" square plate with 1/2" hole on each corner and hole for eyebolt in middle. I use 10" lag bolts to screw into post. Then pull plate with log chain. I got the plate at Napa, something to do brakes or leaf springs.
