Subject: strip-till toolbars

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Moore-built is the name of a small company in Blair NE that makes some good heavy duty 3-point mounted planter type bars typically used in Nebraska. Here is a link to their contact page. http://www.moore-built.com/contact.php They have various options available. They have particularly nice 12 row vertical fold single frame 3 pt toolbar which will work well in many conditions with our Pluribus strip till units. We have several customers who have had them for a couple years now... However for heavy duty corn on corn there is a reason we build the Vision bars.

Even in bean stubble you should NOT have lift tires between the Pluribus units. Been there, done that. There is a customer in Ohio actually who discovered that the hard way on a 7000 planter bar.

We just started up a machine for a customer who was on the fence about a toolbar or rework a cultivator bar he had. He went with the rework. Within an hour of startup he could see why the bar is so important to success with our strip till units. On our Vision bars the row units are staggered 30".

We are now offering the hydraulic down pressure system as an extra-cost option on our Pluribus units for 3rd party toolbars. It is added cost but well worth it for many customers especially with corn on corn.

By the way, I think Brian "Newguy" and Greywolf put it well - strip till takes patience. And a good toolbar. I have to congratulate Newguy for his honesty. He has good lightly used row units for sale. And if you are going pretty much just into bean stubble, his units on a Moore-built 12R30 vertical fold planter toolbar would be a good combination.

On any mounted bar with lift assist wheels note that you MUST have a rigid top link on the 3 point, (not floating not even a little) and you must float the lift assist wheels on a separate valve when in the field and engage them manually when lifting. Our units behave differently than a planter. A majority of our recent service calls and startup woes involve the toolbar setup more than our row units.

We have quite a number of customers who have started with a marginal toolbar, seen the advantages of the strip till system, then go on and invest in a Vision bar.

The Bauer DB bars available through all JD dealers also makes an excellent base bar for our Pluribus units in the wider 40 and 60 ft sizes.

I'll post the pictures taken this morning and referred to above at another time - too late tonight. This is certainly going to be a long, difficult corn harvest in many areas.
