I was in similar situation as your son when I was a senior, 2003.
Kept my mouth shut, worked hard in practice. Final game roled around and I was starting. Went 3-3 at the plate with a 3 run homer that won the game. I didn't need to say anything to the coaches, they got the message loud and clear.
