Subject: buffer strips in Minnesota

North west MN

Sounds like we are going to have to plant buffer strips in areas they have determined are water ways. I have one farm with a small collee that there is only water in it once or twice a year for a day or so unless a major flood is going on. We now have to plant a buffer strip and not farm it. I wonder what the penalty is if you do nothing. It has been farmed  straight through it for 40 years or more. Bad part is some of the so called waterway is by a highway ditch and most of the water will follow the highway ditch but it looks like we will have to put the entire area into a buffer strip as there will not be room to farm in between the buffer strip and the Highway ditch. Is this just minnesota causing trouble or is the entire country losing land to buffer strips?
