![](Old Fort, Ohio) NW Central Ohio | The thing I can tell you about different plow bottom widths...is the wider the bottom, the deeper you have to pull it to roll the soil completely over. A 14" bottom could very well be pulled at 7" deep...and completely roll over a furrow. A 22" may need to be over 10" deep to get the same affect. I believe wider bottoms were used by folks who didn't need a "clean" seedbed...but rather appreciated a little cornstalk sticking up out of the ground for erosion purposes. They also pass more fodder through much easier than the narrower bottoms....something to think about if you're raising high yielding corn. | |
