I can tell you though that this has been a difficult spring overall for planting and growing conditions. I let my rye get around 2' going to corn, with the intention of planting it green. I got nervous about tying up too much N so I killed it mid April. Then it was cold, cloudy, and rainy most of the next 20+ days. I had a lot of trouble getting the ground dry enough to plant with ground being shaded, dead rye not taking up water, and cloudy a lot. Still struggling to get corn planted right now and I finally quit fighting it.
So what I am saying is, you better decide early spring if you are going to keep it for grain or plant corn early. I know the biggest issue this spring was the weather, but dead 2' rye didnt help my situation. | |
