Subject: Will be the neighbor who plants in the mud

Holland, Indiana (SW IN)
Been wet here (SW Indiana) have part of our crops planted have to replant some but mostly look fair.
Just gave some of our dryer fields the 4 WD pickup test didn't get hung but up pretty darn wet.

Got me thinking of years back and some of the comments on NAT about neighbors planting too wet- we have planted corn when it is way too wet years back some years it works some times not so good.

Remembering some of the wetter years and some of the planting experiments tried. No CI so prevent no an option.

The years only a guess about 1984 had a IH 1466 with 20.8 spread duals pulling a 12 row 7200 Deere in June planted 80 ac field all down hill - went down hill folded up got on the road drove around unfolded planted planted down hill way too wet to pull planter up hill IIRC yielded pretty good.

Two years later moved up to a CIH 9330 row crop special still pulling the 7200 12 row had been a short crop the year before ADM was bidding a $1.25 premium for corn delivered by Sept. 15 we contracted 20,000 bu. heck extra $25000 BUT we had to come up with the corn.
Darn wet spring planted in April let air out of the tires on the 9330 to about 5 psi made it work- got enough corn.

Had plenty more episodes with planting in the mud only occasionally did it not work my dad had one of the neighbors comment couldn't see how we were planting when it was nothing but mud deeper down Dad said we weren't going to plant that deep.

So tomorrow we will be the dumb a''! planting in the mud- just have to be lucky if you do dumb S...

Dan

Edit was probably not a 9330 think may be 9130? Been a while ago
