SW Ontario
So we didn't end up building anything to close the gap. It's only about 1/4" and we felt haylage could still get dragged in under whatever plate we put on anyways.

Instead my brother pulled the augers and painted both them and the trough with graphite paint to help everything slide better.

We chopped the first haylage of the year yesterday and didn't have any trouble in the 17 or so loads we did. The graphite paint wore off in spots so we may give it a touch up occasionally but hopefully this will reduce some of the headaches.
