Southern Pa. | There's something about litter that's hard to replace. I also agree with other posters, it does take longer to spread 2 or 3 ton/ acre versus several hundred lbs. I also drive on 25 ft. centers versus 50 for commercial fertilizer.
We are not required by law to work it in. But as a dedicated notiller,I try to spread 24 hrs.or less before a rain event. I get layer manure from a local layer facility. This comes from the belts under the chickens, so is pure manure, no shavings, etc. $10 a ton dumped at the field, I figure about $3 a ton to spread. Generally shoot for 2 to 2.5 Ton/acre. $50 a ton seems high to me.
