C IL | I'm visual, so I have found the big chart at http://takeactiononweeds.com a helpful overarching herbicide reference.
We grew continuous Roundup corn with Lexar for 10 years (which is like hitting the easy button - multiples modes, no resistance, no problem, rinse and repeat) so I forgot a lot of what little I knew about the multitude of herbicides. Now that we are back to planting some beans, I have to think again about the details.
I like that the big chart clearly shows chemical families, underlying chemical names, selected brand names, and how many of the whiz bang chemicals are patented new formulations of old old chemicals.
Then I go to the labels. Actually read those and there is a lot of interesting info. After about four years of that, it became much more comfortable for me.
Visit with the local sales agronomists at field days.
New for me this year: insecticides and fungicides. Although I think the pyrethroid family has greatly simplified the insecticide world, as it is kind of like glyphosate. Safe, cheap, easy.
