We used to haul in about 10k tons per summer, and stacked in a string in one location.

After I smartened up, we made the strings as narrow as possible, and as high as we could make them with a large endloader. 

That solved the "wet mess" problem.

We also used that endloader to turn the piles about every 10-14 days.
