DSL is feasible for the small telephone companies around us, but not for big AT&T. We are 7 miles outside a town of 50k. We use a Verizon hot spot at home, data limits is an issue, wireless might be an option. Satellite was much worse the cellular when we used it. Want to get away from data limits. What is the point of internet if you can't use it or have to pay too much for it.

The Govt pays the independent telcos (big subsidy) to be able to provide DSL and fiber. (Kind of like a new edition of REA), But not a dime to ATT
Here the independent company ran their lines int a couple of ATT areas. Just dont expect that it would be allowed for ATT to do that in an independent area.
