Your not supposed to...might get away with it if it didn't rain. I've had the same experience with paraquat. I don't use it anymore because of this and it's so toxic I don't like to handle it. Spray a week ahead of planting with a pint of 2,4d or use Sharpen and wait longer. That's about all I know that will work on marestail.
