I have a relative who heads up a county rescue service. We were discussing chopper rides to the hospital, and he told me the people in the craft have instructions to radio the patient's car insurance ( if a wreck ) info before the patient is delivered to the hospital, so the helicopter company can file on the patients insurance before the hospital has a chance to notify the insurance carrier. Seems like filing first has priority in being paid by insurance company if the personal injury limits are low.
