Subject: RE: Another nuke plant shutting down

Nebraska
its crazy how much wind is subsidized. I believe it is $23 a MW. That is why nuclear reactors cannot compete anymore. Coal plants being turned into gas fired plants does not help anything as right now it is super cheap. What happens if the govt. bans or highly regulates fracking? Warren Buffet even said in December that he would not be investing in any wind turbines if the government wasn't paying for a good portion of it because it is not sustainable.

I think it would be silly to close Ft. Calhoun now because like you said they have already purchased all of their fuel for the outage supposed to start Oct. 1. With 133 bundles of fuel in their core, and already have paid for 1/3 of them to be replaced would be a significant loss on its own. They have already bought everything and planned out an outage as well. Wonder how many millions it will cost to get out of all of the contracts for that outage.

Edit: Ft Calhoun 25.8% of their baseload generation.
