Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | Impress on them to stay away from the pond and why. Impress on the older ones that it's also their job to keep the little one away from the pond without supervision. Teach them to swim, hope for the best.
My parents' house is 150' from a large irrigation siphon intake. About a 30' wide canal goes into an underground pipeline that doesn't surface for over two miles. It is mind bending how dangerous that structure is. We survived living next to it, and so far so have my kids and everyone else that has come to visit. You just stay away from it, no questions asked. I'd love to have something as safe as a regular ol' pond in the yard instead.
