How long are you planning to stay? And what types of things do you like to do? What ages are family members?

We were just on the Big Island, flew into Kona (small open air airport) and stayed at Hiltons Waikoloa Beach Resort. We were there for a meeting.
The resort itself is huge and is a tourist oasis. Sits on 10 acres with 1240 rooms, multiple pools, hosts conventions, etc.
The weather and terrain on the Big Island are very diverse: dried lava, pastures, hillside villages, macadamia nut farms, volcanoes, rain forests, Hilo City, hiking trails, etc.
We drove the perimeter in one day but we definitely could have taken more time to see various sites and stop and do things.
If going there, must do: a helicopter ride, waterfalls, whale watching, hiking. Depending on ages there's a zip line adventure.
If you're looking for white sand beaches, then it's more limited on this island.

Glad we went to the Big Island, but if we'd have had more time, we'd have done a boat or flight from island to island, since each is different and we didn't see Pearl Harbor.
