Southern Pa. | Nate, you bring up some good points. It is very possible to trust in traditional practices, emphasize the execution of them, and yet not have a heart that's been born again. Many of the more progressive Amish/Mennonite churches would fault the Old Order groups for being Pharisees, and spiritually dead. I believe we need to first of all have our hearts cleansed by the blood of Christ, and then because of our love for Christ, live a life of obedience and separation from the devil and the world. Jesus didn't condemn the Pharisees so much for their traditions, but rather for trusting in them for their salvation, and yet all the while their hearts were far from him.Works without faith in Christ is dead, but so is faith without works. We prove our love for Christ by our willingness to obey his commands.We just need to be sure we don't get the cart (works) before the horse (Christ)
As far as technology is concerned, I agree that what we use it for can determine whether it is good or bad. However, there is something captivating about a lot of modern technology. I think there is value and safety from a spiritual perspective in being cautious as far as adopting new technology. The devil knows what will happen to Christians when the things of this world draw our hearts and minds away from Christ.
