Subject: RE: depends on your definition of smoothing

I've known folks who pulled a 25' with a case 4wd, but I think they were working 6" down for some reason. We pulled a 30' sunflower FC with a really old 1466 acceptably in our fairly heavy dirt. Of course it went much better with a 210 hp steiger (or even the 3588 2+2 before that). So, if you are looking to work the top 2 inches, you shouldn't have any problem unless it's too wet to be out there. You said you guys were notillers, but making 2 light passes with the FC isn't the end of the world either.

I think we get in trouble on the will it pull it deal when we lock ourselves into everything being one pass and perfect after that. Typically it doesn't take 2 passes in the spring, but if it does, so what. A good seed bed is sort of important.
