Missouri | I can't say why it's GR5 instead of GR8, but I can say in 5 years working at a good sized Kinze dealership, this is the first time I've seen this. Granted, it could be because many would change a bolt themselves sooner than call a mechanic out to do it, but
If I was to venture a guess (again, this is just a guess), it has to do with possible failure modes of the bolts. While grade 8 bolts are stronger, they also have a greater tendency to snap off entirely if they do break, whereas often times a grade 5 will deform but still hold on under the same circumstances.

I wonder how long until one comes off going down the road and kills someone?
That's the reason the safety chain is there. It wouldn't be the first implement, or the last, of any make, model, or color, to have a hitch/drawbar failure. |
