Beresford SD | The insurance system has not been mentioned, but one could suspect the fines are an attempt to hold liability costs down. If the violators get hammered word gets out ..... this discussion, for example. Our culture of getting by with ? as long as you don't get caught gets pretty expensive for the companies paying claims. There are some people who are more capable of multi tasking and likely get along fine behind the wheel talking on the phone. Unfortunately there are plenty who cannot walk and chew gum at the same but they have no inhibitions about phones and driving. Thus the rules take a restrictive stance and apply to everyone.
Some years back I was running out the last load of spray for the day , it was evening, using a Bluetooth hands free speaker unit and trying to handle a necessary phone call. Turning around my conversation often became halted and the person on the other end noticed, yes I was running a tractor. The need to get it right with the sprayer caused my mind to prioritize the task and the phone visit was goofy. Lesson learned, but how many people do it the other way around .... pay more attention to phone than driving?
Lately the cell phone bill has little notes from ATT encouraging no texting while driving. How soon will we see an attempt to sue carriers and/or phone manufacturers for misuse of their product? | |
