We actually do both. After d/c beans ahead of corn we spread litter, til very shallow, and plant 15# of cereal rye. Usually around the first of November. Cereal is the only cover that will establish that late. We are 100% terraced on poorly drained soils and residue washing is a big problem unless you have big covers. Big covers is a problem on our poorly drained soils. Nemoscott posted about this last week.
