I think people would pay attention to fines that were 10% of what is mentioned. I think its another case of a brainless bureaucrat in Washington thinking they have the power to prevent all accidents by simply passing another law putting restrictions on truck operators. And the outrageous fines are just the bureacrats way of showing how much testosterone they have. Had the law been inclusive of every person driving every vehicle everywhere then perhaps I could agree with it. Or had the penalties been similar to other driving violations I could agree with it. The way it is its just a silly over-reach that is mostly targeting the wrong drivers on the road. Make teenagers pay a fine that's worth more than their car and see what that does to teen texting on the road....but that might cause a hardship. Tell me that someone talking on a headset is really much safer than a guy answering a phone....I don't think so.
