We flipped a residential property in warm weather. Didn't need the gas heat turned on. Only had the gas company flip it on for 4 hours one day for the inspection prior to sale. When I scheduled the turn-on, I was told it was at no charge. Works for me. Till 3 months later when I learned there was a "blot" on our credit report.....we had a bill in collections. Started searching and calling, finally found out that the gas company in question had delivered bills to the property address, where we'd Never lived and the new owner hadn't completed her move yet, and when they got no response, turned it over to collections. They had my cell number the entire time, but never bothered to call on the issue. It cleared up easily and was erased from our credit report once it cleared, but was an unnecessary pain in the neck.
