I've only done it with alfalfa / grass mix hay . Technically applying Roundup before cutting hay is only labeled for alfalfa and other legumes and not rye. I think it would work fine on the rye but technically it is not on the label. If you do it I would only spray 1 quart of the old 41% Roundup per acre. If the rain stops in a week you will be fine but if it keeps raining you could lose it. If you spray it and it is rainy and cloudy in a week it will only be light green (half dried) but not brown.
