Before we went to 2x2. I use the seed closing disc trench. It is about inch 1 1/2 over and 3/4 deep to more at times. Lot better than with the seed. Made my own by using old fert tube bolted to the bolt that holds the disc on. Made the disc missy once in a while. Put 8 to 10 gal down. KSU test show that dump it on top of the ground 2 inch over was not to bad for placement.
