Thud, Have you ever had the DEF freeze enough to derate the engine? I have had several truckers on the yard in extremely cold weather who were not pleased to say the least. Carrying DEF in the cab to dump in the tank when the engine would derate as the tank heater did not seem to be able to keep up in really cold weather. Perhaps those problems are resolved by now.
Would bet they were doing excessive idling.....not enough engine heat to thaw the def. Run into that MANY TIMES. The driver will start engine and walk away and have a coffee.
Do believe they have an extreme cold package available to combat that. I do suggest getting a Webasto engine heater installed and make sure the coolant is able to flow in engine AND def tank. |
