1770 - 5/6/2016 12:23 Any major differences, Is one a lot better then the other? I assume by "zone till" you mean some tillage done on the planter. "Strip till" is generally considered to be a separate operation some time ahead of the planter pass. The thing no planter mounted system can provide is TIME. Time between opening/fertilizing the seed planting path and the actual planting. In many areas and situations this TIME is important for the soil to get fit, even if it is just a couple hours of sun and wind. In some geographic areas and years, frankly that time is not so important. That is why there is often a severe difference of opinion between posters from Kansas and Minnesota. Strip till usually has a much wider time window to get it done and can often be done at higher forward speed than any tillage mounted on the planter. One is neither better or worse than the other. They are just different tools for different climates, soils and systems. Pick which one works best in your climate, soils and system. I'll leave it at that. Jim at Dawn
