The Internet

shorty1 - 5/6/2016 09:58 Our 8370R uses DEF and it seems to take at least 2 1/2 gallon a day which is just another cost. My pickup also has it but doesn't seem to use much.I have also had sensor and have to recycle it once in a while. These new tractors will not outlast the older smokers that aren't ran by computers and are all electronic. The older than 2007 trucks are bring a premium.

There are plenty of people on here changing the oil at least twice as often as it need changing. There are others riding to the coffee shop in a 400hp V8 pickup and you are complaining about using a couple of $ worth of urea each day compared to hundreds in diesel?

We have had electronics are cars for decades now and they almost without exception make them run better and last longer. The electronics on you tractor are stopping you doing a load of stupid stuff that wrecks them, like shifting to an inappropriate gear, or running them too hot etc. They also stop you, or at least, make it more difficult for you to piss about with the fueling so the engine run cleaner, which lengthens the life of the oil and thus the engine. Even if there were no emission regs, you would still be using electronically controlled engines, or you wouldn't be driving a 9 litre tractor with 400hp, would you?

Personally, I think that there is much room for improvement in the durability of some of the components and wiring, but on the whole i find it reliable and makes life much easier.

Like it or not, people want cleaner air and diesel engines are very dirty. You can either have EGR or SCR, the latter being less intrusive. We have 3 masseys running perfectly on urea, it really isn't an issue.
