Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | dairyman78 - 5/4/2016 20:37 I can see where you are coming from. But as you age ( at least for me) decided I was not going to let the farm consume my entire life. People are different but I have really enjoyed meeting new people of all walks of life and listen to their life's stories. I found out that I lived in a pretty small world and still do. I have noticed this especially dairy farmers that around 50 years old their perspective on life changes. Maybe in the corporate world they fire a lot of people when they reach that age. When you hit 50 let me know! Ha Ha!
Cottonhauler, Dave's right. In your current stage of life, it may be really hard to see, and right now you may not give a damn. But as the years pass, you may find that there's a lot to learn from people whose life has been more different from yours than the same. We met a couple this past winter in AZ that probably couldn't be any more different from us if they tried. Same general age range, but that's where it stops. They've always lived in a huge metropolitan area, always had big-city jobs (commercial real estate and mortgage brokerage). They neither one know a corn from a bean. But they're interested in learning about how we live and what we do, and we've been fascinated learning what their life is like. Maybe that kind of exploration and learning isn't going to be your cup of tea, who knows, but give it a chance. You might like it one day. |
