I heard a high percentage of farmers get nearly free or heavily subsidized crop insurance, receive disaster payments from the federal government, don't pay sales tax on anything remotely farm related, claim personal vehicles and other personal expenses as deductions on their tax return, are exempt from paying registration on their $20k RZRs, pay cheaper license fees for their semis and pickups, are exempt from a lot of DOT regulations, don't legally have to pay overtime for hired help, can burn refuse instead of being forced to pay disposal fees, don't have to claim their personal residence as an asset on a FAFSA application, can borrow money at artificially low interest rates through the FSA, and some of their kids even qualify for reduced price lunches - but I drove by the bar the other day and saw lots of trucks with farm plates parked outside. Does anyone know the percentage of farmers receiving government benefits that own pickups?
man that was well written!!! Great post!!
