If they truly are vilifying it it is jealousy, I wouldn't be surprised with all the "BTO" hate and "Corporate" hate that is on this board and really in this country period.  When profit is a bad word and corporate is used as a curse what more can you expect.  Funny thing is most on here that own any real amount of land are millionaires if not multi millionaires should they ever decide to liquidate then they could be the big bad evil ones but since it is "all" in land you are pure and wonderful.  Unless of course you "flaunt" say a second home.
