hush, hush as it should be. There are many out there who are so insecure (like the lunch lady in your example and most TV talk show and reality show hosts like: Nancy Grace, Rush Limbaugh, etc.) that they have to try and make others feel so low so they can feel so high, especially those in need, trouble and/or on hard times, because its easier to beat down those people.
There is a reason why most lunch ladies were "lunch ladies." It sure wasn't because they wanted to.
