It's not the smell he should be worried about!!!!   Bad deal.  Rubber seals, etc in washer  Throw out the old, clothes and all.  Lot of bleach should do pretty well at cleaning washer up, to make it safe enough to wash human laundry, else ammonia, but those chemicals are hard on clothing.  

Hoping he knows enough next time to burn clothing and take a shower immediately.
