It is a lot older than you think.

An autobiography of a local industrialist quotes his grandfather saying "BTO" prior to the depression. There was no explanation but the point was made to him to make sure not to repeat it around the women or town.

That BTO had offered to buy their family's farm in the '20's (Nebraska) and later got it for a fraction of the original offer during the downturn.
