Being polite and respectful goes a long ways and it's a two way street. For the most part I've been respectful to every dot officer and in return they've been respectful back. The only officer that I've run into with a "gun and badge" complex was a young county cop and that ended ok too after he calmed down and used his head. It also helps to go get a CAT scale weight too.
