I hate to see all the old ones go, too. But the "fixing up" part almost always gets way more expensive than the "tearing down and building new" option. Have done it more than once. Every time, would have been way cheaper to tear down and build new. Houses or barns, doesn't matter, have done both. Spend more than new, still have old....
