An idea i'm thinking about trying is one single strand hot barbed wire fence extra high with an 8" light pole laying on the ground and tied to the T-posts that hold the wire. I've seen it work with cows but I want to try this with 6-8 weight calves. Maybe another light pole to keep them from rooting the feed out of reach.
