Subject: RE: Need NAT opinions on our road to contract growing grain........

I think we are forgetting proballly the biggest thing affecting livestock and grains but in different ways; RISK. Wild price swings made it nearly impossible for small livestock producers to stay in business in the tough times, yet the big guys were able to manage the risk and make it though, only to grown drastically on the next upswing. So the small guys were forced out of business and large companies control most of the livestock sector. The biggest difference for grain producers however is crop insurance because it allows us some protection in the tough times and makes it possible to stay somewhat competitive. If crop insurance becomes unsubsidized or unaffordable to the small producer we will be rolled over by the big guys. Then the big guys consolidate and form mega companies. Just my opinion.
