West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12
A true capitalist would raise the most profitable crop possible. Many times raising the best crop possible does not equate into raising the most profitable crop.

Last year my 6.8 acre hybrid plot average yield was 222 bu./acre. The remaining 114 acres of the field average yield was 187bu./acre. The only difference in management was a little more N P K S and Zn was applied to the plot acres. The price of corn the day of harvest was $3.26, using that price, the plot NET/acre was $17.86/acre LESS than the field acres. The price would have to be about $4.10/bu. at those yields before the extra applied fertilizer shows any kind of a positive return. It was a good thing the weather provided me above average yield last year or those plot acres would have lost me real money.

With the current price environment we're in, both buying and selling. What incentive is there to raise the best crop you've ever raise?

edit too add...the weather
