Ours on our 1770 nt was doing the same thing and found out that there was a bypass kit that we needed to add to the motor. It was just a matter of adding a little hose and and a couple of fittings at the motor. We did it on two motors and solved the problem on both. There is a part number for the kit, not sure what it is.
