Subject: RE: backwards calves

I have had my share over the years. When ever I see a cow calving I try and look when the feet come to see if they look upside down. Upside down feet are almost always back wards. My tip is PULL right of way and have puller at side and use if required. Cows have more backwards calves naturally then you might think. Most are ok. When you come across a cow that has calved and calf is dead for no apparent reason, there is a good chance it was backward. Last year I noticed a heifer calving first thing in the morning, noticed immediately that is was backward and large. Moved her into maternity pen and pulled with puller immediately. It took me at least 30 min to pull it, and got it alive. It weighed 113lbs. My lucky day.
