Southern Illinois has a positive basis if your close to the Mississippi. When we are looking at -40 basis and 3.30 prices southern Illinois will have a plus 20 basis. At current prices you should be close to 3.90 cash corn. The positive basis will make you an extra 20,000 on the 200 acres alone. That is an extra 100 dollars an acre profit. 225 is a steal.
Adm St.louis is $3.81 spot corn right now. Now let's throw in trucking at $.20 to get it there and you are looking at $3.61 cash. One thing to remember about southern Illinois is we are always 1 week away from a drought all summer long. Combine the spotty rain with the blow torch wind at the wrong time and that 165 corn is now 120 corn all in one week. |
