With its low population density (both pigs and people), cheap grains and proximity to existing and future packing plants eastern SD is prime location for hog production but your state is not friendly to modern animal agriculture.   ND isn't a whole lot better either.

Its sad really.



 Your point about being held hostage by the rail even with a local bean processing plant is true.   Unless you have local usage for that bean meal it still has to get shipped out on the rail.
