![](http://www.newagtalk.com/mapdots/edwinkle.jpg) Leesburg, Ohio | Regarding insulation under the floor, I would much rather have double the insulation around the outside of the foundation and footer, and the outside four feet of the floor along the walls, and none in the middle of the floor. Almost all the heat loos from the floor is around the perimeter of the building. The ground under the middle of the floor mostly just serves as heat storage. Yes, the floor might be a bit slower to warm up, but it also will be slower to cool down if the power is off, and will have more heat to give up after the big door is opened in the winter. If I wanted a system that could be turned off on weekends or used only occasionally, I would choose something other than floor heat. IMHO, floor heat just works so much better than anything else, I will leave mine on all winter even if not being used every day.
I would never choose electricity as the direct energy source for floor heat. Natural gas, or even propane is far cheaper here. | |
