No the pitch is the same 1/2 inch on any chain size that starts with a 4. The 40 chain is slightly wider and the rollers are slightly larger. You can run 40 chain on 41 sprockets but not the other way around.
The number on the chain pitch is how many eighth's of an inch. 40 chain is 4/8 or 1/2 inch. 50 is 5/8 inch. 60 is 6/8 or 3/4 inch, etc.
