You'll want a planetary auger drive unit so it will go in a 12 inch or bigger hole. Chain drives will run a long time, but you can't dig as deep.
I like my Bobcat digger, very heavy built. It's a 15C model.
As far as augers go, all mine are Pengo brand, and I love them. They make a Bolt on rock head (BOHR) for all of them and they are heavy enough to handle it. They chew through tree roots and old fence posts.
Danuser augers would be fine too. Really anything from Danuser is good, but, really compare that Bobcat digger before you throw money down. | |
